Scratch Ninja Class (Live online small group classes)

In this fun and creative class, students are introduced to the exciting world of coding using Scratch. With colorful drag-and-drop blocks that are intuitive and easy to use, students create stories, games, and animations. Along the way, they’ll learn essential coding concepts such as conditionals, loops, variables, and a lot more, while exploring Scratch’s unique features like motion, sensing, and clones.

Class Format

• All classes are taught live online by experienced teachers from Create & Learn.
• Each class has up to 3-5 students, ensuring personal attention for every student.
• Classes meet once a week during the school year. We also offer online virtual camps during the summer and holiday/spring breaks, which meet once a day.
• The full course includes 5 parts/levels, each with 4 sessions.
• Sessions are 55 or 70 minutes long, depending on the level.
• New classes start every week with a variety of time options to choose from.
• For grades 2–5 (check out Accelerated Scratch class for grade 6+)

Class Content Details

Students will learn fundamental coding concepts while building projects such as animations, stories, and games. The course has 5 levels, from beginner (Part 1) to advanced (Part 5), with 4 sessions in each level.

Part 1: Scratch Ninja 1 – Early Adventures (4 sessions, 55min/session)
We start from the very basics of Scratch, so no prior coding experience is needed. Students learn core coding concepts such as sequences, loops, and conditionals, along with Scratch-specific features like motion and sensing.  Every session, we'll create something amazing – animations that sparkle, games that challenge, and stories that unfold on screen.

If your child is already familiar with basic Scratch concepts like loops, conditionals, sensing, motion, events, and clones, they may skip Part 1 and start with Part 2.

Part 2: Scratch Ninja 2 – Creative Games (4 sessions, 55min/session)
Students take on more complex projects, creating a cool interactive game with bouncing balls, conquering a wizard tag game, building animations, and even navigating and customizing a jungle adventure, all aligned with their interests. Key concepts introduced include variables and more advanced uses of conditionals, events, cloning, and sensing. With each session unveiling fresh and thrilling projects, your child's coding journey will be as exciting as it is enriching. 

Part 3: Scratch Ninja 3 – Create with AR & AI (4 sessions, 70min/session)
Part 3 of this Scratch class for kids ensures students get lots of practice and master key coding concepts all while making awesome projects. We will also learn some of the coolest capabilities of Scratch such as using a camera to do an AR game, text to speech, and creating AI music. Creativity and confidence grow as students design puzzles, stories, and more.

Part 4: Scratch Ninja 4 – It’s Showtime! (4 sessions, 70min/session)
This level introduces the most advanced Scratch programming concepts, such as lists/arrays, custom blocks (functions), and enabling complex game interactions via messaging and cloning. . We continue the cadence of the one fun project per session, even though projects become more complex. Class time focuses on learning new advanced coding concepts as well as building out key components of the projects. Students may need about an hour outside class to complete each project.

Part 5: Scratch Ninja 5 – Advanced Game Building (4 sessions, 70min/session)
This is the most advanced Scratch coding level and focuses on making connections across all of their previous learning, while layering in additional challenges in coding, problem solving, and creativity. We will be building a variety of fun arcade-game inspired projects where students can add their own twists based on their personal interests. Students are expected to complete the project after each class, so we can focus class time on the most challenging part of the game building. Expect impressive results as students bring all their skills together!
